DELTAS Schools Outreach Update – May 2024

On the 8th May DELTAS attended LaSWAP Sixth Form Consortium with two groups of students including the ICT group from the 6th Form from Parliament Hill School at La Sainte Union (LSU) premises.

Perminder Jagdev, Bruna Pellicci and David Wood, MBA and Frances Anderson discussed STEM, routes including becoming an entrepreneur and running a Legal Events company, Law, Legal IT, InfoSec and also Legal Engineering. Little was known by the groups on the routes into legal apart from becoming a lawyer and it was wonderful to see 40+ ambitious students from Year 10 / Year 12 and some Year 9s; some have started their own apps.

On 14th May David Aird, Perminder Jagdev, Jo Owen, David Fazakerley & Christel Aguila kindly gave their time alongside two work experience students from our DELTAS initiative to man the DELTAS stand, promoting the intiative to the Legal Tech community at the British Legal Technology Forum 2024 . We are always seeking individuals who can volunteer their time to join us at the school visits as well as how companies can support the initiative.

On the 22nd May, Anissa Tennah, Taavo Adams and Caroline Hill, Editor in Chief of the Legal IT Insider attended LSU for a second career talk, where presentations looked at legal events, STEM and journalism.

Tennah confirmed; ‘we were pleased to go onsite at the LaSWAP Sixth Form Consortium who DELTAS have been supporting over the past 5 years with various outreach initiatives. The purpose of this visit was to deliver support for career talks within the LegalTech space. As Head of Events, I spoke about my delayed start at university, career journey within different sectors and how I landed up at Netlaw Media now organising LegalTech events. The second presentation was from Caroline Hill who spoke on beginning her career as a solicitor within the criminal law field but that not being where her heart was. She explained about how taking some risks lead to her following her passion of legal tech journalism’

A big Thank you must be given to all of the DELTAS ambassadors: and also our corporate sponsors, since it is due to your generosity and willingness to give up your time that we can continue to make a difference to the students who are looking at STEM subjects as well as our next generation of professionals
