Bridging the Bar (BTB) is a registered charity (No. 1190369) dedicated to promoting diversity and widening access to the Bar for individuals from underrepresented backgrounds.
Founded in early 2020 by Mass Ndow-Njie, BTB was born out of his personal experience as one of the few Black pupil barristers in the UK. Since then, the organisation has grown rapidly, driven by a passionate and skilled committee committed to meaningful change.
BTB’s mission is to level the playing field in the legal profession by supporting aspiring barristers who face systemic barriers due to factors such as ethnicity, disability, socio-economic status, education, or sexuality.
One of BTB’s flagship initiatives is its mini-pupillage programme, which now includes over 40 partner Chambers across England and Wales. But this is just the beginning.
True equality of opportunity goes beyond offering placements—it means providing long-term support, starting early in a candidate’s journey and continuing even after they enter the profession.
Together, we’re building a more inclusive and representative Bar—one opportunity at a time.
